Avatar Wins Big At The Golden Globes

Every year at this time, movie lovers across the country set their eyes on Hollywood, California. The Golden Globes aired Sunday, January 16th on NBC. James Cameron's "Avatar" took home the two top awards of the night for Best Motion Picture-Drama and Best Director.

Democratic congressional leaders are in talks to develop a new strategy to help finance their ambitious healthcare plan. This plan would apply Medicare payroll tax to capital gains, dividends and other forms of unearned income as well as wages. It could also help Medicare through its financial difficulties and place the new tax burden on mostly upper class Americans, leaving the middle class relatively untouched.

On Groundhog's Day, 2010, voters across Illinois will gather to cast their primary ballots for key Illinois offices. To earn the Republican gubernatorial candidacy, seven contenders have thrown their names into the ring. Notable among them are Hinsdale-based State Senator Kirk Dillard, Bloomington-based Senator Bill Brady, and media-savvy businessman Andy McKenna, who has gone to such lengths as incorporating Blagojevich-style wigs into his television ads.

Saints Go Marching

The University of St. Francis' (USF) Prolife group sponsored four students and one administrator on a trip to Washington, D.C. to lead in the "March for Life" on January 21 and 22. Students Mary George, John McGreal, Margaret Motto, and Marco Reyes were accompanied by Aaron Krumreich, Assistant Director of Ministry.

Lady Saints Earn Victory Over Robert Morris

JOLIET, Ill. - Senior guards Anna Sears (Providence Catholic H.S./Mokena, IL) and Jacqie Storm (Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL) scored 27 and 22 points, respectively, to lead the streaking University of St. Francis women's basketball team to its 10th straight win with an 87-75 decision over league rival Robert Morris Tuesday night at the Recreation Center.

Leavell Named CCAC Player of the Week

ELGIN, Ill -- The University of St. Francis won its second straight game with a 75-69 win over Indiana University South Bend last week. The Saints were led by Greg Leavell's (Farmington Hills, MI) double-double. His stellar performance earned him CCAC Men's Basketball Division I Player of the Week for the week ending January 31 The Saints were down by eight points with seven minutes remaining when they put together a 22-8 run to storm back and win the game.

On Wednesday, the University of St. Francis' Marian Hall played host to the first of the "Healthy Body-Healthy Mind" series coordinated by Jim Kubalewski. "The Balancing Act," discussion led by Dr. Donald Maier of the Department of Business, dealt with assisting college students to find a balance amid the technologies, events, clubs, friends, and other demands on their time and energy.

Senioritis

Yes, it's that semester again when upperclassmen are overwhelmed, nervous and lazy when it comes to schoolwork and classes. It could be because the seniors are finally graduating, and just want college to be over. Waking up for class becomes one of the hardest goals you have to set for yourself the night before, homework is a struggle to get done and projects are put off till the absolute last moment.

Top Five Films Of 2009

In a year filled with changes and overwhelming uncertainty many found comfort in escaping for a few hours in a movie theater. Traveling though various worlds of fantasy found on the big screen is one of my favorite pastimes. Over the course of 2009, I went to see many movies.
